It’s a debate that has been taking place for at least 500 years, starting when Martin Luther nailed his “Ninety-Five Theses on the Power and Efficacy of Indulgences” to the door of the All-Saints Catholic Church in Wittenberg, Germany.
Many consider this act to have ignited the Protestant Reformation, a turbulent and deadly period when men like Luther, John Calvin, John Knox, and many others “protested” against doctrines and practices of the Roman Catholic Church and strived to “reform” the faith back to its biblical roots.
So why bring up a debate that once burned hot hundreds of years ago but one that is of scant interest today? Are there bigger problems to focus on than parsing doctrinal differences between Roman Catholics and Biblical Christians?
