The how and when of the origin of the universe sparks great debate. And for good reason. The ramifications of believing the Biblical account that “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1) versus the God-less theory that “In the beginning, nothing exploded and evolved into everything over billions of years” radically changes how one thinks and lives.
There are views between these views, such as evolutionary creationism, which attempts to syncretize millions of years of evolution, including common human ancestry with animals, with some aspects of Biblical creationism. The organization BioLogos is known for championing this view.
