TOPIC: Is Trump Making America Great?

Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.  Proverbs 14:34

Back in August, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo stated, ”We’re not going to make America great again. It was never that great.”

This is the sentiment of many on the political left, who view America as historically and structurally racist against blacks, sexist against women, intolerant toward Muslims and other non-Christians, bigoted toward homosexuals and transgenders, and not nearly helpful enough to the middle class and poor.

This captures at least part of President Obama’s worldview, who characterized traditional Americans as those who “cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment…” His would-be successor Hillary Clinton had another term for them—“deplorables.”

The election of President Donald Trump in November 2016 disrupted the expected handoff from Obama to Clinton, popping the humanistic dream of “fundamentally transforming the United States of America”, as Obama had promised.

Trump ran on the slogan to “Make America Great Again.”  But is he in fact doing that?  What are the metrics for doing so?
